How to Apply

Types of Applicants


  • Initial applicants - Initial applicants are students who are currently outside the U.S. and seek to apply for an F1 student visa at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate for study in the U.S. at AAE.


  • Transfer applicants - Transfer applicants are students who are currently attending another school in the U.S. and seek to transfer for study at AAE.


  • Change of status applicants - Change of Status applicants are students who are currently in the U.S. on another status (B1, B2, J1, etc.) and seek to change to F1 student status to remain in the U.S. for study at AAE.


The first step for all types of applicants is to apply for admission to the American Academy of English to receive the acceptance documents and Form I-20.

Types of Applicant


Initial Applicants - Initial applicants are students who are currently outside the U.S. and seek to apply for an F1 student visa at the U.S. Embassy/Consulate for study in the U.S. at AAE.


Transfer Applicants - Transfer applicants are students who are currently attending another school in the U.S. and seek to transfer for study at AAE.


Change of Status Applicants - Change of Status applicants are students who are currently in the U.S. on another status (B1, B2, J1, etc.) and seek to change to F1 student status to remain in the U.S. for study at AAE.

STEP 1 – Complete Application

STEP 2 – Upload Supporting Documents 

  • Passport. Copy of the ID page(s) of your passport. It must be valid at least 6 months beyond your anticipated stay in the U.S.
  • Bank statement. Student applicants must show proof of financial funds to cover tuition & fees and living expenses for their expected length of study in the U.S. The following are the source(s) of funding and documents needed to fulfill the financial requirement for the Form I-20 (you can select one or more):
  • Personal funds – Submit your bank statement
  • Sponsor's funds – Submit Certificate of Sponsorship and sponsor's bank statement

All statements must be current and are subject to authentication with the financial institution. The chart below are the minimum estimated tuition & fees and living expenses for the ESL 100 - ESL 600 courses that you need to show to receive the Form I-20 and, if applicable, the student visa.

* For applicants with a length of study of 2 academic years, only the estimated expenses for the first year of study are need to be shown.

Add $2,395 for tuition and living expenses for each additional enrollment month if your length of study falls between the above session lengths.


  • Transfer Students Only. If you are currently attending another school, provide additional documents:
  • Transfer Form
  • Copy of your recent I-94
  • Copy of your current Form I-20
  • Copy of your F1 visa (if available)


STEP 3 – Pay Application Fee

  • Pay the $100 nonrefundable application fee after submitting the application.



After Applying

A complete application, including all the supporting documents and application fee, must we submitted for processing. We will contact you should additional information is needed. Allow up to 3 business days for processing. Upon acceptance, the Acceptance Letter and Form I-20 will be issued. The next step depends on the type of application:


  • Initial applicants – File Form DS-160 and schedule your visa interview to apply for the F-1 student visa at the U.S. Consulate/Embassy.
  • Transfer applicants – The Acceptance Letter and Transfer Form is provided to your current school for the release of your SEVIS record.
  • Change of status applicants – File Form I-539 to apply to change to F-1 status with USCIS.
